Top-10 finish in Mountain Moonshine Classic at Smoky Mountain
SHINNSTON, W.Va. (06/20/22) – Rocket1 Racing and Brandon Sheppard competed in Smoky Mountain Speedway’s inaugural Mountain Moonshine Classic over the weekend with their Valvoline / Seubert Calf Ranches No. 1 Ace Metal Works / XR1 Rocket Chassis / Durham Racing Engine Super Late Model.
Sheppard banked a sixth-place finish in preliminary action on Friday before racing to a ninth-place finish on Saturday.
“We picked off a couple of spots in both features, but we started a little too deep in the field to be much of a contender for the win,” Sheppard said. “We were fairly consistent though and brought the car home in one piece, so now we’ll get ready for one of my favorite events – the Firecracker (100) at Lernerville. It’s an event I’ve been close to winning in the past, and I’d love to scratch it off the bucket list this weekend.”
After Thursday’s program at Cherokee Speedway (Gaffney, S.C.) fell victim to Mother Nature, Rocket1 Racing followed the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) to Smoky Mountain Speedway (Maryville, Tenn.) on Friday for the opening round of the two-day Mountain Moonshine Classic.
In a field of 45 cars, Sheppard secured his spot into the $5,000-to-win preliminary feature with a fourth-place finish in his heat. Clawing forward two positions in the 30-lap affair, Brandon notched a sixth-place finish.
On Saturday, Brandon’s third-place finish in his heat race placed him on the sixth row for the $50,000-to-win Mountain Moonshine Classic. Breaking into the Top-10, Sheppard gained two spots in the 60-lap affair to finish ninth.
Sheppard continues the latest LOLMDS point standings.
